some
time
last
month
in your

valuable
paper
that
the
Christiansted

Cooperatlve Dairy
had fixed the price of
fresh butter
at 60 cents
per pound.
Prior
to
this
chavge,
when
the price

stood
at
65
ecents
per
pound I could al-

ways
obtain
from
this
valuable
institu-
|
tion my
small
portion of butter,
viz: 15

or
even
10c.
worth.
To-day
with
the
drop in price,
I
awm
debarred
from
pur-

chasing
my
butter
there,
for
the reason

that lam
told,
*We don’t
sell less
than

ha!f a pound.”’

Now Mr. Editor,
this
rule might
work
all right
with
the
man
of
means,
but
when
it
is
remembered
that
we area
very poor community and
there
are
hun-
dreds
who,
like
myself,
cannot
afford
to
put
out
30 cents
at
a
time
for
one
article,
this rule
seems
to
me quite
un-
called
for, except
it
was
made
for the
purpose
of keeping
out the
poor.
Why can
not
a quarter
of a pound be
sold for 15 cents?
Trusting that those
concerned
will take
the poor
into
consideration
and
revoke
this drastie order, and thanking

REPENTANCE.

is at hand. Bring forti therefore
fruits

In studying
the life of John the baptist
we
find
that
his
chief
message
was
on
REPENTANCE.
It is extremely
impor-
tant for us
to give the
most earnest
heed
to the
above
pertions
of Scripture,
be-
cause,
(1), they
point
the only
way
of
forgivenesa:
(2), they
argue
the only con-
dition of baptism;
and
(3),
they
guaran-
tee
the
only
acd
true recommendation
to chureh
membership.
We shall
now consider
the
first
virtue
of Repentence.
Before doing so however
let me brie‘ly define
the
word:
Webster
says
‘‘a sorrow
for sins,
and
Paul
calls
it “‘Godly sorrow,””
Man
has
tried
to
find the
way
back
1o God
from
the
first
transgression
in the
Garden
of Eaen
and
inspired
record
proves
conclusively
that
the
only
means
provided
was
through
the
shedding
of
blood which
man
by
taith therein
presented
to God wih peni-
tence for
whatever
sins
he
commitied.
All
the
blood
shed
betore
Christ
was
born
in the flesh
was only typical of Him
the Lamb
siain
trom
the
foundaiion
of
the
world.
Hence
man
does
not
now
have
to producea
sacrifice.
'This
is
al
ready
provided
and
is
effectual
forall
who
repent
and
believe.
My
purpose
for mentioning
this
1s
that
many
claim
since
Christ
has
paid
it
all
they
have
nothing
to do and some
day they
will
be
saved
withort any
effort
of
their
own.
But reader,
you
must r<pent
now
ot
all
your sins,
and by faith the work
of
Cal-
vary
will be beneficial
to you,
or else,
it
willavail you nothing.
We
must
frankly
seeour
guilt and #onfess
same
and
He has
promised
to
torgive
us
and
cleanse
us
fro n all uarighicoudsncss,
The next thing we bring to your notice
is that
repentence
is the
only
condition
of baptism.
There
is
reason
also
for
this
statament.,
Miny
believe
that
we
baptize
persons
with
the
idea
that
:bhis
ordinance
saves
them
or m4kes
them
a
christian
as yu
would better
understand
it.
Not
sv,
baptism
must
always
be
preceded
by evidenees
of conversion,
In
giving the commission
to
his dicipie;s Je-
sus
said
"'He that
believeth
and
is bap-
tized shall be saved’’.
A
person
cannot
truly
believe
he is forziven until
he
has
genuinely
repented.
Neither
can
he be
baptized
urtil he
'"With
heart
beligves
uato
salvation,
and
with
mouth
makes
confession
taereot.””
The
last
point
we would
touch in
this
subject
is that churcn membership
should
be conditiored
by repentence.
