CONSIDERATION OF POLICY MANUALS



(Board of Trustees Meeting, January 16, 1966)



Faculty Policy Manual



The Board agreed to adopt the tenure provisions as contained in the

Faculty Policy Manual. The sections in the Faculty Manual on Appointments

and Tenure for Members of the Faculty, Salary Schedule, Faculty Salary

Allotments, Advancement in Salary and Rank, Suspension and Termination

of Teaching and Administrative Faculty, and Academic Standards and Pro-

cedures were approved.



The section entitled Leave of Absence was discussed. The President

pointed out that the sabbatical system being proposed followed closely the

practices of most colleges and universities with the exception that this

proposal made provision for sabbatical leaves for the President and other

administrative officers of the College, which was now being done by some

colleges but was not presently true of a majority of the institutions of

higher education. The section on Leave of Absence was approved with

provision made for sabbatical leave at half-pay for a full year or for sab-

batical leave for a half year at full pay.



Sections covering Faculty Housing Policy, Reimbursement for Teaching

in the Evening Program, Waiver of Tuition Fees for Faculty Members and



Immediate Families and Outside Activities were read and approved.

Staff Policy Manual

This manual was reviewed more briefly and adopted.

Student Policy Manual, or Student Handbook

This manual was also reviewed, some questions were raised, and it

was approved.

The manuals would now be reproduced and used as standard guides for

present and incoming faculty, students and staff.
