BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION



AUTHORIZATION FOR THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS TO ORGANIZE AND

IMPLEMENT AN INAUGURATION PROGRAM AND RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR

THE THIRD PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS



Purpose



To authorize the expenditure of University funds to

organize and implement an inauguration program and related

activities for the third president of the University of the

Virgin Islands.



WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the University of the

Virgin Islands has selected and sworn Dr. Orville Kean as

the new president of the University to replace Dr.



Arthur A. Richards who retired last September 30, 1990, and



WHEREAS, it is the practice of the Board of Trustees of

the University to organize and implement an Inaugural

Program for a new president of the University, and



WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Trustees of

the University to invite (1) leaders of institutions and

agencies of higher education from the United States, the

Caribbean and other regions, (2) officials from the federal

and local governments, (3) the University community and

Virgin Islands community at large, and (4) friends of the

University to witness and/or participate in the inauguration

program and related activities.



NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of

Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands hereby

authorized the expenditure of university funds not to exceed

$100,000 suspect to upward adjustment by the Executive

Committee of the Board, if necessary, for organizing and

implementing an inauguration program and related activities

for the third president of the University of the Virgin

Islands, Dr. Orville Kean.
