Tomorrow
is
Election
Day
</hen
the
candidates
to
represent
Christiansted
and
Frederiksted
towns
will
be
voled
for.
The
nominees
for
this
town
are:
W.
S.
Abramsoa,
Joseph
Alexander,
R.
de Cl.abert,
A
Teytaud;
and John
Alex-
ander,
C.
A. de Chabert,
Samue!
Elskoe,
and
O.
C.
Granady.
The
first four are
contestants,
the others
by rtheir
own
de-
claration
being
averse
to their
noinina-
tion
and
not
desirous
of securing
elec-
tion.
All
the
candidates
feel
strong;
each
of
them
has
his
quota
of
votes
which
promises
success;
and each
party
feels
that
its
principles
are
just and
its
zspirations
all
that
should
be realized.
However,
but
two of the number
chosen
can
be elected
and prognostications
are of
little
avail
especially
when
it
is buta
matter of hours
and the question
will
be
settled
beyond
doubt.
In
Frederiksted,
Mr. Robt.
L. Merwin is
the
only
nomi-
nee,
and
his
return
to
the
(Council
is,
theretfore,
assured.
In reviewing events
of
past
elections
in
Frederiksted
it
is
striking that at
that time
Mr. Merwin’s
election
was
hotly
opposed.
It
must
be
deduced
that
this
candidate
has

his
constituents
as
to
his
neing
the
right
man that
not
even

much
as
another
name
has
Dbeen
mentioned
at
the
present
election,
Mr.
Merwin has
been
chairman
of the
Colo-
nial Council for a
number
of
years
and
great
confidence
is vested
in
him.
This
paper
has
only good
wishes
for the
suc-
cessful candidates
andjhopes
that the ener-
gy which has characterised
the campaign
in Chistiansted
will nct
desert
the party
after
the
election,
but
will ad
in
the

achievement
of
worthy
results
for

common good.

nation

a CALL TO
SERVICE.
Cha-
bert representing
only

section
of a
section
of the community,
or TEYTAUD
whose
effort
will be to
defend,
support
and represent
ALL SECTIONS
ALIKE.
He is
a friend
of all
classes.
It is
hint
ed that
he
is
not
an
independent
man
because
he
is
a
salaried
man.

to God that all
who
are
not
‘‘salaried’’
men,
but
claiming

be
independent,
were
as
independent

Money
is
not
everything.

vourself whether

it

more

sirable
to
have

independent
spirit,

purse?

independence
is
so
desirable
a
qualifi-
cation
for
a
councilman,

all
means
VOTE FOR TEYTAUD,
who

though
a salaried
man,
is
paid,
not
by
any :local
fi m,

institution.
He
has
no need
to cater
to any particular section
or party
in
this
island,
but
is
free
to
serve his
country
and
protect
your
in-
terests
far
more
sincerely
than
the
so-
cailed
independent
man,
who,
in
his
business
life
has
to
cater
to
those
con
whom
he is dependent
in
order
to main,
tain his ‘‘independe. ce.’”’
My fellow
vnters
arguing the
question
and holding meetings
are
of little
use.
Your
conscience
tells you
that
there
are
many
reasons
why
you
should
not
vote
for either
Joe
or
Chabert
at
this time,
Give
them
both
a
few
years
more
to
mature
and
become
more
stable,
a
few
more
years
during
which
time
they
might be
able
to
take
down
from
the
cross
ithose.

who
have been
maliciously
nailed there,
then
perhaps
they might
make
good.
Until
then,

Teytaud

join
hand
and
heart
with
those
who
have
your
inter-
ests
at heart.

us

individuals, or
as
a
people,
are
loudest
in praising
Joe

Co,
whereas
MR.
TEYTAUD is presented
to you
as your
candidate

the
most
prominent
and
enlightened
men of our community,

tives
who
know
you
and
him.
Can
you trust
him, you ask?
Has it never

curred
to
you

this
man
has

holding an important place
of
trust
for
the
past
twenty
years?
Serving
the
public in
a
position
where
strict

dence

trust

paramount

merchantile
