UNIVERSITY of the VIRGIN ISLANDS RESOLUTION PURCHASE OF MICROCOMPUTERS FOR INSTRUCTION WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands has established as one of its goals that it will "utilize the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art academic~> resource base among institutions of similar size in the region." WHEREAS, microcomputers have become essential instructional and productivity devices in higher education and in all areas of commerce, industry and public service in which the graduates of the University will be employed; and WHEREAS, microcomputers are needed to provide access for all students to the University’s emerging capability to search, retrieve and use information at libraries, archives and other institutions abroad; and WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands has set the goal of educating all of its students in the use of microcomputers in all of the discipiines; and WHEREAS, the number of microcomputers currently available on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses are inadequate to meet the needs of the instructional programs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the President and Vice President for Financial Affairs be authorized to appropriate the sum of $120,000 from the Educational Resources Reserve Fund for the purchase of microcomputer equipment for the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses according to priorities identified by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
