DeGraff, Angel L. Bolques, Jr., Samuel Carriόn and Diane T. Capehart Co-sponsor: Ray Fonseca Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 1 SECTION 1. Title 1 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 7, section 103b, subsection (c) is 2 amended by striking all the language after “grant of” and inserting “$5,000” in its place. 3 BILL SUMMARY 4 This bill amends the Centennial Treasures Award statute to provide for a single $5,000 5 award payment. Under existing law, upon a person’s 100th birthday, the Commissioner of the 6 Department of Human Services awards the centenarian $4,000, and upon the death of the 7 centenarian, another 1,000 is awarded towards the recipient’s burial. Under this bill, the 8 centenarian would receive the entire $5,000 in a single payment upon the centenarian’s 100th 9 birthday. 10 BR23-0415/February 23, 2023/YLT 11
