experts
have
at
last
succeaded
in
locating
the
whereabouts
of the
wreck
of
the P and
O liner ‘‘Egpyt,”’which
went
down
on
May 21st
1922 after having been
in
colli-
si>n with
the
French
steamer
‘'Saine’’
off Ushant.
The
wreck has
been found
six
miles
from
the
scene
of
the acei-
dent,
at a depth of
sixty
four fathoms.
The underwriters
have
accepted
the
ex-
perts
terms for an attempt
to recover
the
gold ignots which
the
Egypt
was
carryv-
irg and
which
at present
rates
are
esti-
mated
-to
be
worth
ten
million pounds.
Later
an atiempt
may
be
made
to refloat
the
vessel
itself.
Salvage

riot-
ing, resulting
in numerous casualties
and
much
destruction
of
property,
occurred
on Friday at Saharanpur
and
Gonda,
in
the United Provinces,
at the
close of the
Mubarram
religious
celebrations.
The
police were able to
quell the crowds
ouiy
by
the
use
of fireaims.
Minor disture
bances
occurred
in Calcutta,
Ahmedabad,
Amritzer
and
Nellore.
The
tension
is
high,
but the
authorities
have the situa-
tion in hand.
