'‘deliberately
and consistently
tarned
a
blind eye
and
deaf
ear to
anything and
anybody
need-
ing help’’, it is felt that this comment
is
very
much
at
variance
with the
experi-
ence of the people
of these
islands
all
of
whom have
received
at
some
time,
in
some
form,
tokens
of
the
charitable,
helpful, and
benevolent
characteristies
of
the Danes
who have lef:
behind
them
a
well deserved
reputation
for
interest
in
the poor
and needy
In
addition
to
nu-
merous
instances
where
the
Danish
gov-
ernment
has
come
to the assistance
of the
population of
these
islands
should
be
re-
membered
the
very
recent
munificent
annuities bestowed by Denmark
upon hun-
dreds of the destitute
public here, and the
pensions
accorded
to
young
and old who
had
served
even in the merest
capacities
under
its
administraton.
And it should
not
be
forgotten that the
public
funds
from which
many
are receiving
periodi
cal
help
are
available
through
the
kind
and
thoughtful donation
of Danish
peo-
ple.
On
the oceasion
of their
thirtieth
wed-
ding anniversary
today,
hearty congratu-
lations
and
best
wishes
for
many
wmore
years
of happiness
are
