Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. EXTENSION OF VERIFICATION AND CERTIFI- 3 CATE ISSUANCE PROVISIONS. 4 Additional U.S. Note 5(h)(i) to Chapter 91 of the 5 Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States is 6 2 •HR 4628 IH amended by striking ‘‘and before January 1, 1995,’’ and 1 inserting ‘‘and before January 1, 2007,’’. 2 SEC. 2. CIVIL PENALTY FOR IMPORTING MERCHANDISE 3 WITH A COUNTERFEIT MARK. 4 Section 1526 of title 19, United States Code, is 5 amended by adding a subsection (f) to read as follows: 6 ‘‘(f) Any person who directs, assists financially or 7 otherwise, or is in any way concerned with the importation 8 of merchandise seized pursuant to paragraph (e) shall be 9 subject to a civil fine. For the first such seizure, the fine 10 shall be equal to the value that the merchandise would 11 have had if it were genuine. For the second seizure and 12 thereafter, the fine shall be equal to twice the value that 13 the merchandise would have had if it were genuine.’’. 14 Æ
