DEPARTMENT
OF
EDUCATION.
Section
1
is
hereby
amended
to
read
:

and public
edu-
cational
institutions
shall
be under
the
Department
of
[ducation.
as
provided
in this Chapter,

(a)
No permission
is
required
for
establishing
private
schools.
(b)
Schools
other
tham
public
schools
may be closed
(1) when they
fail or refuse
to give such reports
as
the
Director
may reasonably
re-
quire;
(2)
when it is for the
public
health
or safety:

When
a school
is ordered
clos-
ed by
the
Director
an
appeal
may
oe made
to the
Board.

not be
a bar
to bringing
the
mat-
ter before the Coart.

12.
Children
may
be
taught
at
home.

Director

than that of the public schools.

(a)
Subsidies
from
the
public funds
may be granted
to
schools
other than public schools for
strictly
eduecational
purposes
upon
recommendation
of the Board;
Pro-
vided
that
no
subsidy
or
financial
help shall be
given
by
the
Public
to
denominational
or
sectarian
schools
or institutions.
(b}
Subsidies
may
be withdrawn
at
any time by
the Board upon the
recommendation
of the Director.
Section
4.
(a}
The Director
may
inspect
all schools
other
than public
schools
at
any
time; but
under
no
circumstances
shall
this
privilege
be delegated
by the Director to any
person
other
than
one of his
legal-
ly appointed
Assistant
Directors
of
Fducation.
(b)
Whenever
the Director feeis
that
it
is necessary
to report
on or
make
recommendations
councerning
any school other thana public school
he
shall
immediately
forward
in
writing an exact
copy of such
a
re-
port
or recommendation
to the per-
son in charge
of the school
concern-
ed.

Tne schedule
of Holi-
days for
schools
other
than public
schools
shall be arranged
by the
au-
thorities
having
charge
of
such
schools;

that
there
shall
be not
more
than ninety days
