THE STORY:
Wallace
Phillips,
a frequenter
of Chinatown,
is discovered
one
day while
talkicg to
Toy Sing, daughter
of Mock Sing,
owner of an
opium
den,
by Harris
who finds him
to
be useful.
Without knowing Phillips’ identity, Harris
sees
the
close
res=mblance
o
the
wealthy
young
Gordon Phillips whom
be has
secreted
in one of Mock
Sing’s dens,
for
the
purpose
of exdcting
a large
sum
of
money.
Harris
makes
a barcain
wi'h Wallace
to
g 0 to the Phillips residence,
pose
as
Gordon and
assist
him
in stealing
the
L.mily bonds.
Wallace
agrees.

Arriving at the brother’s
mansion,
he
finds
Gorden’s
wife.
a beautiful
young
wo-
man who immediately
mistakes
him for her
husband
aund upbraids
bim for his
drunken
debaucheries.
The butler
recognizes
him
as
he
has
known
Wallace
from childhood,
and
they
plan to
get
Gordon
and
brinz him back
to safety.
Harris
thwarts
ail
attempts,
however,
and is infuriated
ac Wallaz.’s
refusal
to deliver the bonds.
A note signed by Toy Sing reaches
Wallace
one
night,
begging
him
to come
to her
as-
sistance.
He leaves
Gordon’s
wife,
who
is fast falling in love with the
man she
believes
to be
her reformed
husband,
and
goes
to the Chinese
girl’s rescue.
It was
all
a
game,
as Toy
reveals,
to get
him away
trom home,
so
that Mrs.
Philhips could
be
abduected.
Wallace
hastens
back,
finds
his butlef® gagged,
and
learns
that
a gang
of Chinese
had
entered
and
taken
away
his brother’s
wife.
He arrives
at
Mock Sing’s again
and
with
Toy’s assistance,
reaches
the hole
where
his brother
and
wife are being
held
as
prison-
ers.
Harris
is tryving to force
them
to sign
away
their
rights
when
Wallace
breaks
in
and
knocks
him down,
Before the fight
is
over,
the police arrive.
Toy is
shot
durin>
the skirmish,
and Gordon,
overcome
with dope and
maltreatment,
dies.
Wallace
whe
had already confessed
his identity,
is accepted
by the girl.
