learn
that
it
is
the
desie of the
Department
of
Kduecation
to
publish
a
historical
review.
of
KEducation
in
the
Virgin Islands,
to
contain
data
as early
as
such
can
be
secured
supported
by
authentic
records,
and
to
embrace
all
school
work,
and
equcational
develop-

ment from the very most primitive period
of
the
islands’
history.
Unduubtedly
a
work
of
this kind should
be
very inter-
esting,
but it is also
certain
that it will
rot
be an easy
matter
to
prodace
same
without extensive
research
labor
It
is,

therefore,
brought
to our attention
that
the
cooperation
of the
puhlic
is
invited
to
help realize
this
aim; and to this
end
the
columns
of
this
paper
are
placed
at
the
disposal
of all
who
can
offer
some
contribution
in
the
form
of
-
correspondence.
We
wish
to
encour-

age
every
one
to
write
fully and
to
~
furnish
or
quote
any
authorized
records
~
which
may
be
in
his
possession.

After
a
mass
of letters
and
data have
been
collected
in this
way,
over
a period
of
months
perhaps,
the
papers
will be
2ssembled,
checked
up,
cross-checked,
and generally revised
and compared
with
other
historical
notes
which the Depar:-
nment of Education
has
been
able to gath:
er, and from the result will be compiled
a
bulletin
which should
preserve
in
histori-
cal form a very commenda’
le piece of edu-
cational
work.
There
are
many old heads
in this community
w~ho
have
surely lots
of facts from experience
and second-hand
sources
which
will
be
interesting
and
useful, and
it
18 sincerely hoped
that the

necessary
support
will be
forthcoming.

and Austria-Hungary,

those countries
he
not only played
his
part
in

ring
as
a
pugilist,
but
as
the
promoter

sporting
clubs
he
obtained
a recognised
position
and
came
into contact
with the
highest
ciasses
in society.
He has
thus
material
for
an
entertaining
book,
not
the least sensational
part
of which is the
aceount
of
his
arrest
and
internment
during
the Grea:
War, and
his strange
experiences
in prison-camps.
