COMMITTEE ON BUDGET, APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE BILL NO. 35-0129 Thirty-Fifth Legislature of the Virgin Islands September 12, 2023 An Act appropriating $350,000 to the Department of Public Works to conduct a feasibility study on the reopening of certain roads on the island of St. John linking the towns of Cruz Bay and Coral Bay PROPOSED BY: Senator Angel L. Bolques, Jr WHEREAS, the towns of Cruz Bay and Coral Bay on the island of St. John are served 1 and linked by one road; and 2 WHEREAS, the sole, primary road on rainy days is plagued by landslides and 3 rockslides; and 4 WHEREAS, during and after hurricanes the people on the eastern part of the island of 5 St. John are cut off from civilization as often the one road linking the towns of Cruz Bay and 6 Coral Bay becomes impassable; Now, Therefore, 7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 8 SECTION 1. (a) The sum of $350,000 is appropriated in the fiscal year ending 9 September 30, 2023, from the District Public Road Fund established in title 33, Subtitle 3, 10 chapter 111, section 3002 of the Virgin Islands Code to conduct a feasibility study on the 11 reopening of Monty and Seven Cross Roads as well as findings on building other roads on the 12 island of St. John liking the towns of Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. 13 2 (b) The funds appropriated in subsection (a) remain available until expended. 1 BILL SUMMARY 2 This bill appropriates the sum of $350,000 to the Department of Public Works to conduct 3 a feasibility study on the reopening of certain roads on the island of St. John as well as finding 4 other sites where a road can be built to link the towns of Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. 5 BR23-0230/May 8, 2023/AA 6
