NEW YCIRK 11714- GEC73L-433 5 June 1973 National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center Greenbelt, Maryland 20771 Subject: NASA Contract NAS5-21811, Virgin Islands ERTS-1 Experiment #589, PRO 45, Type I Progress Report for the period April and May 1973 Gentlemen: During the period of April and May 1973 we resolved software problems with GSFC which enabled us to process the precision CCT tapes. In addition GSFC supplied a bulk computer print out of the island of St. Thomas, MSS Bands 4, 5, 6 and 7. Precision digital data print outs for each of the harbor test stations in the 4 MSS bands indicated that considerable radio- metric data had been lost when compared with the bulk data. Consequently we reviewed very carefully the bulk data print outs in an effort to use these data for correlation with-the ground stations in order to benefit. from the greater radiometric fidelity and still locate t'ach computer print out character on a map with acceptable accuracy. A simple grid system which enables scaling the computer print out to the USC&GS chart was developed. Progress during April and May is summarized below: 1. Processed both precision and bulk CCT tapes in the Grumman LM Data Reduction Station. 2. Developed a simple means which will enable correlation of bulk data with in-situ data for each of the test stations. 3. Partially reduced optical measurements of test panels and harbor water. 4. Received from our Co-Principal Investigator, Marine Resources Development Foundation (Dr. D. Olsen) rough draft summary report of the harbor water quality in-situ measurements. During the next reporting period we should have some results on quantitative correlation. Yours truly, GRUMMAN ECOSYSTEMS CORPORATION W. C. Coulbourn Applied Technology WCC: jl cc: R. D.
