My first visit to a dentist was in the 1940’s , while a student at Saint Ann’s School at Barren Spot. The dentist’s office was located on the second floor of the old-scale house in Christiansted. The dentist was none other than the late Dr Aubrey Anduze ,father of Dr Alfred Anduze. All I could think about was Mama cooking red peas soup tonight -“What amlgoingto do” Many years later, his son Dr. Alfred Anduze took care of my eyes. I looked forward to my appointments. Dr Anduze was very personable. In addition to publishing works in the medicalfield, Dr Anduze has made rich contributions to Virgin Islands folk literature with his tales of Cyril the Crab, Papito and the Seven Hens, and Umberto, the Harvester Ant. I always felt renewed after an appointment with Dr. Anduze. There was always an exchange in our local culture: “Ifyoh eat yoh one, yoh hungry yoh one” “Who cant hear, will feel” Never hangyoh hat where yoh canTreach it” “All ninyam good for nyet bu’noh all ‘tory good foh tell A solid salute to Dr. Alfred Anduze, a graduate of Saint Dunstan ‘s School and a warm Crucian.
