Hundreds of boxes of grapefruit that in former years were bur.ied or dumpead into the sea at New York as unfit' for food this year will be econverted into canned grapafruit for which people in the United States will pay enough money to give a profit to the producars and cainnars. What before was not only a w iste but a source of loss is now being converted into a food product that is rapidly becoming a staple commodity. Making two blades of grass grow where only one grew before is no more co nmendable than converting what was 01ce a waste into a useful produect. The annual Red Cross roll-call for membership the date for which has been fixed by proclamation by President Hard- ing and Gov. Reily from November 11 to 925, commenced today under the direction -of Earl K. Burton as chairman of the roll-call committee. A goal of 25,000 mambers has been fixed as reasonably obtainabie and those in charge of the work hope to obtain these members without as much solicita- tion as has been customary in previous roll-calls. In so far as possible anm effort is being made to get members in groups through business and other organizations.
