attained
a
height
of
19,500 feet in 48
minutes
at
Fort
Wash-
ington,

flight
also
broke
the
American
record
for
land
flying
machines
with two
or
three
passengers
The
‘“Flying Yacht’”’ made
the
alti-
tude ata
speed
of
130
miles
an
hour.
Grover Leoning,
inventor
of the machine
was
on
board,
and
former
Comwmander
David
McCullough,
of the
navy,
pilot
of
the
N.
C.
3
in
its
trans-Atlantic
flight,
was
pilot.
L.
D’Orcy,
of
the
Aero
Club
of America,
recorded
the
in-
struments.
The
inventor
said
later
the
machine
could
have
made
23,000
feet,
and
the
decent
was forced by the drop in temper-
ature
from
75
degrees
on starting
to 28
degrees
at
the
peak of the climb.
The
machine
carries
a
400 horsepower
motor.
