cent
of alcohol.

AIRPLANES
TO
LOCATE LOST
LAKES.
Airplanes will
be
used
to
locate
an-
photograph
unknown
lakes
in
the
na-
tional
forests
of
Alaska.
During
the
New York to Nomz flight by army aviator
15 many
lakes
were sighted
which
could
not
be
found
on
the
latest
and
most
authentic
maps.
Tales
of unknown
wa-
ter bodies
are constantly
bzing
brougat
in by trappers
and
prospectors.
Less
than
a vear ago
a
lake
four
and
one-half miles long by one-hall mile wide
was diseovared
at the
h2al of Short bav.
Tais lake has
over 1,00)
acres
of sariace
area
and is less
than
on: and one-quarter
miles from tide water;
vet bacause
of the
surrounding
country’s roagh
topozraphy
it has remained
unknown and
unnamed.
It is because
many of thes2
**lost lakes”’
may
be scurces
of water
power
that the
U.
S. forest
servic2 intends
mapping this
“no
man’s
land’’ by
means
of
aerial
photographs.
The work
will ba done by
a
seaplane,
flying from Ketchikan
as
a
