CHRISTIANSTED— Governor Albert Bryan Jr, issued the following statement in recognition of the 2019 celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Day:

“Today we celebrate the life and the legacy of an extraordinary individual. A man who, sacrificed everything to uplift and inspire a people to continue the climb to a mountaintop capped with the promise of peace, prosperity, equal rights, and justice.

Dr. King inspired us all to dream, and he called us to action to lift ourselves, our communities and our fellow man. He challenged us to speak out against injustice and the things which imperil our people and our community. “Our lives,” he said, “begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Today more than ever, we need to heed his words and most importantly his call to action and work together to improve our Virgin Islands community.
