USVI/UVI Free Tuition Scholarship Program-Plus What is the Free Tuition Scholarship Program? For more information, visit freetuition.uvi.edu Signed into law in 2019, the Free Tuition Scholarship is a Virgin Islands government-funded program created to make attending UVI affordable for more Virgin Islands residents. It is available to residents who graduate from a private, public or parochial high school regardless of age, graduation date or household income. The Free Tuition Scholarship covers tuition costs for eligible students. What is Free Tuition Plus? Free Tuition Plus combines the Free Tuition Scholarship plus other forms of financial aid. The Free Tuition Scholarship strictly covers tuition fees and will be applied first to pay for your tuition. Students may wish to apply for supplemental financial aid to cover non-tuition costs like books and room and board (housing and dining) through FAFSA. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 You are eligible for the Free Tuition Scholarship if you meet the following criteria: Complete the UVI Admissions Application at www.uvi.edu/apply Your eligibility will be verified during the application review process. Whether or not you qualify for the Free Tuition Scholarship, you can still apply for financial aid based on need through the FAFSA (Step 3). THREE STEPS You will graduate or you graduated from a USVI high school which you attended for 3 or more years You have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in high school You are seeking your first undergraduate degree (associate or bachelor’s) You are enrolling as at least a part-time (6 or more hours) student, for either on-campus or online degree programs You are a current resident of the U.S. Virgin Islands What is the FAFSA? FAFSA is a comprehensive application form you must complete and submit to the federal government for financial aid. If you don’t qualify for the Free Tuition Scholarship, you must complete FAFSA to apply for federal financial aid to access any other financial aid at UVI.
