& MILLER, INC. 'nvironmental Services Ground Water Engineering Hydrocarbon Remediation Education May 5, 1994 Ms. Caroline Kwan U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region II 26 Federal Plaza, Room 737 New York, NY 10278 Re: Excavation at Western Auto, Tutu Wells Site, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands Dear Ms. Kwan: This letter serves to update you regarding activities at the Western Auto site in Tutu, U.S. Virgin Islands. The work is scheduled to commence on May 10, 1994 and will consist of soil excavation and pipe repair. The excavation dimensions will be 4-feet by 4-feet by 7-feet deep, rather than the initial proposed depth of 15-feet deep (i.e., depth to top of bedrock). This modification is necessary because the depth of the excavation must be less than 9-feet deep to maintain structural support for nearby building foundations. Once the soil has been excavated, it will be used as backfill for the excavation. This is in accordance with the telephone conversation on April 28, 1994 involving Thomas Danahy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR).
