officer of the Civil Engineer
torps
of high rank,
to the Virgin
Isl-nds
for
the
purpose
of
investigating
and
reporting
upon
the
means
of
providine
a
wa er
supply
for
the
towns of St.
Ihomas,
Christiansted
and
Frederiksted.
It is
expected
that this officer
will reach
the
Vir-
gin
Islands
the
latter
part
of tne
prosert
nionth.
The Honorable,
The
-ecretury
of
the
Navy,
has
also
informed
me
that the Departrient
of the In crior
has
agreed
to'scnd
a Reclamacion
Engineer
to the
- irgin Islands
tc
in-
vestigate
and
report upon
the pussi-
bility
of
water
conservation
ror
agricultural
purposes,
and that
this
engineer
willprohably
arrive in the
Virgin
Islands
the
latter
part
of
February.
We have
now
the assurance
that
the problem
ot water for the Virgin
Islands
is about
to recetve
the
ex-
pert investigation
nece-sary
toeven-
tual solution and
in
view of
tnis,
I earnestlv
urge
that
the
people
adopt
an optimisiic view
as
to waal
the future
may
hold for us,
