installation
of
three
additioral trunk
lines
between

Ch-istiansted
and Frederiksted.=

poles and
cross-

arms.

old

wire;
and
(d) Installation
of
a new
switchboard
at
Christiansted.

date telephone
system
?
Futhermore
the
Member said,
Under
present
conditions
while one
person
is speaking
through the
‘telephone five
or six ether
voices
could
be heard
talking at the same
time.

are
many
business
iransactions
tnat
can-
not be spoken
over
the telephore,
or else
the whole
island
would
know
the
next
morning.
When
such
a
largs
sum
of
monecy
is spent
the public
should
be

formed whether
those
who are executing
the work will thorougzhiy improve the tel-
ephone
system.

Pettigrew
elucidated
that
the great portion of

phone is due to the

gle
line
between
the
two

The

The
condition
of
the
telephone
and the guarante~
depends
upon
the
maintenance

this
amount

give
an
entire
change.
It
must be
taken int¢ corsider-
ation
that the lines
will have
o be kept
clear
and
the erossing
of lines
will
pro-
bably
occur
between
two
parties
that
have
their
lines
on
the
same
pole; for
in-
stance,
if
two
estatés
have
their
lines
along the
same
road, only those
lines
will
cross,
but
no other porson
will be ale
to
hear
the conversaticn
