been learning the printjng trade together with anothe! ex-convict, ORINS, seeks a job in the Ollwel printing shop,
where both of them are engaged in the morning and fired at noon the same da; without pav.for the half day s
work, when Mr. Oliwel discovers that they are ex-conviets. : : i,
Penniless %mc} hungry they are begging for food at the doors of more lucky people’s houses, whereby they
come t> Mr. Ollwel’s private hcuse. Mrs. Ollwel, being a good-hearted woman, can not bring it to her heart to
turn the two hungry men away and so she served them with a good meal.
During the meal Mr. Ollwel arrives ho'n}e with tHe intention to elope with his proof-reader, wherefore he
makes himself some 200,000 Dollers Sandwiches in order notto get hungry on the way and later he discovers the
two ex-convicts eating in the kitchen; half drunk and furious as he is he attempts to knock them down, whereby
he tell and killed himself by knocking his _h_le;_;d agcinst the fire.place. Richard Hatton sees clearly that both he
and his comrade will come to “'Swing'" cn the gallows for havm% murdered Ollwel, and, seeing' the impossibility
