RPS JOINS IN UVI CHARTER MONTH CELEBRATIONS The Research and Public Service Component Opens Doors to UVI Community As part of the University of the Virgin Islands’ ongoing Charter Month celebration, the Research and Public Service Component is proud to announce that it will host an open house event on both campuses in honor of the university’s 45th anniversary. The RPS Open House will take place on Monday, March 19, 2007 on UVI’s St. Croix campus and on Friday, March 23, 2007 on the St. Thomas campus. The Research and Public Service Division includes the following units: the Agriculture Experiment Station, Cooperative Extension Service, Small Business Development Center, Water Resources Institute, Eastern Caribbean Center, Research Publications, Virgin Islands Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, and the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies. This division of the university holds chief among its responsibilities that of defining and solving problems through research, as well as providing quality services that address needs identified by the community. On behalf of the staff and administration of RPS, it is our pleasure to provide the UVI community with this opportunity to experience the diversity of work being conducted by RPS units and to learn more about this important component of both the university and greater USVI community. On St. Croix, Research and Public Service will proudly hold an open house on Monday, March 19, 2007 and extends an invitation to the entire UVI community. The event will take place in the Research and Extension Center in room 133 from 12:00-4:00 pm. The Agricultural Experiment Station, Research Publications, and Cooperative Extension Service will host the event, provide displays and discuss their programs with all our friends and colleagues. AES will provide tours of the station on the “Soul Train” so that everyone can have a first hand look at our research projects and the new farm store. Snacks and refreshments will be served. On St. Thomas, the Research and Public Service Component will hold an open house celebration on Friday, March 23, 2007 from 10:00am until 2:00pm. This event is open to the entire UVI community and will include a gathering of representatives from all St. Thomas RPS units in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus of UVI. Staff will be present with displays designed to inform the UVI community of the important work being done by the various units of RPS. Refreshments will be provided. In addition, guests will be invited to go out for a boat ride in Brewer’s Bay to hear about some of the exciting activities and investments of VI-EPSCoR, along with the research being done at the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies. The Cooperative Extension Service, Eastern Caribbean Center, Small Business Development Center, Virgin Islands Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, and the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies will host the event.
