contest
was
planned

clubs

never organized

a C. C.
before
playing
that
match.
Itis only
now
that
we
are going
to
form
a real
club.
I told the
captain of the €. C: C.
that
I would select
eleven
men who have
not
been
playing cricket
for a very long
time,
and give
him a battle,
he
agreed
and
told
me
that I must
not
take
men
from
the
Invincible
C.
C
who
are
at
present
active
members
and in
regular
practice.

the

a few days
before
the contest,

he gave

played
the
match
with
the
same
men
whose
names
were
published
in the papers.
But the captain
of
the C. C. (.
just the
very day of the
match
took in
men
from the
Invincible
C.
C.
to play in the contest.
Now, thatis
the
very club he told me not to take
men
from.
Consider
the anfairness
that
was
carried
out,
now these
are plain facts for
fair minds.
It was decided upon
not
to
take
men from
the Invincible C. C.
this
decision
was
binding on
bhoth clubs
and
was agreed
on by both captains.

ous damage
was done at Ballaghaderrees
last night by fire and shooting
following
upon
an attack
on the police by sixty arm-
ed
men in which
one constable
and
one
civilian
were
shot
dead.
The
second
constable
Mec Carthy,
whe
was
reported
dangerously
wounded,
died this morning.

Sept.
2nd.
—While
the Postmaster
and several
as-
sistants
were serving the mail this morn-
ing,
ten
armed
men
entered
the
office
and compelled the staff
to
stand
before
the
wall.
Three raiders stood
on
guard
while
the others
rifled
the mails
taking
letters
for the Police,
Naval and Military
authorities
and
then departed.
