*On the auspicious
event of his
comple-
tion yesterday
of
42 years
of
unbroken
service
with
the
Colonial
Government
of these
Islands,
it is our pleasure
today
to
extend
to
our
esteemed
townsman
Mr.
Thomas
Joseph
Stridiron,
Head
Book-keeper
of
the
Government
of
the
Virgin Islands,
our
sincere
congratula-
tions
and
best
Wwishes
for
many
more
useful
years
in
public
service.
Mr.
Stridiron
who is one
of
the best
known
men
in
St.
Croix,
popular
among
all
classes,
and admired
and honored by rich
and poor for his genial, frank disposition,
and
his
unbounded
charity
of
which
much
is not known,
is also
anative of this
island,
and therefore
all the
more
a
cre-
dit to us
born
here.
He entered
Govern-
ment
service
on
April 23,
1878,
as
a
clerk
in
the
office
of
the
Government
Secretary
(Van
Brackle)
and
so
credit-
ably
did he
impress
his
superiors
that
he
was
promoted
on November
1,
1882
as
junior
clerk
in
the
office
of
the
Assistant
Treasurer.
On
Feb.
1,
1886
young
Stridiron
was
constituted
royal
clerk,
a post of no
mean distinction,
and
in 1897
he
was
constituted
Bookkeeper
and
Treasurer.
In
1900
he
received
royal
appointment
as clerk
in
the Book-
keeper’s
office,
and
effective
April
1,
1907,
as
Government
Clerk,
the onerous
duties of which office he discharged
with
unsurpassable
ability,
and
with
that
ease
which
has
:lways
characterised
aim.
When
the
lands
were
trans-
ferred in
1917
Mr.
Stridiron
who
had
by
that
time
become
a
real
favorite
with ghe Danish Government
was
among
the
few
officials
who
stood
by
their
posts,
to
afford
the
new
administra-
tion
what
assistance
was
needed
and
on April 1, 1917 he received
appointment
as Head Bookkeeoer,
during
the
tenure
of
which
office
he
has
been
honored
with
the
undisguised
regard
of
the
American
Government
staff
toward
whom
he
always
cherished
a
spirit
of
earnest
cooperation
and
goodwill.
Tt
is certain that
we
voice
the
sentiments
of
a
large
majority
in
this
island
in
hoping
that
Mr. Stridrion,
who
still
is
hale
and
hearty,
will continue
to
enjoy
good health
and prosperity.

Information
was sent

after
the

sue of the days
paper
yesterday
to
the
effect that the
commission
would
arrive
and receive
interested
parties at
Freder-
iksted yesterday.
The Virginia
arrived
at
Frederiksted
last night with
some sixty
bags
mail, it
is
understood.
Delivery
of
that
mail
will be made
here
today.

yesterday.
He
was

nied by Government

ter spoke
for the
(Govt.
on
the
subject
of
the
code
of
laws
which
was
under
discussion.
Governor
and
Mrs.
Oman
entertained
at dinner
informally
last
evening
Hen.
Albert
Strauss
and
Mr.
B. M.
Angell,
the Special
Commissioners
of the
Trea-
sury Department
and
their party.
Mr. Cyril E.
Daniel
was
seated
in*the
Colonial
Council
yesterday
as
Fourth
Appointed
Member.
Mr.
Frederick
A.
Moran,
Assistant
Director of Civilian Relief,
Insular
and
Foreign Division,
American
Red
Cross,
who arrived
recently
from
Washington
ils investigating
social
conditions
in the
Virgin Islands
with
a
view
to
the
Red
Cross
working
in
cooperation
with
the
School
and Medieal Departments.
He is
especially interested
in
the
organization
of effective
Red Cross Chapters
here
