Council for the Munacipality

That
on merchandise
remaining

in
the
Customs
warehouses
at

either EChristiansted
or
Frederik-
sted,
for
a
period
of more
than
fourteen days,
there shall be
levied
and
collected
a charge
of fifty bit
per
cubic
foot for each
thirty
aay
period
or fractional
part thereof;
that
such charges sha?a be collected
as ;other customs
charges;
and
that
the moneys
so receiveg
shall
be ac-

counted
for in the same
manner
as
l
other Customs
charges
collected.

ordinance
said,—Mr.
Chairman.
The bill proposed by Govern-
ment for warehouse
charges
is merely to
make
the
charges
uniform.
Since
the
proposal
of
this
ordinance
by
Govern-
ment
the question has been
raised
as to
what
the charge
should be, and
Govern-
ment learns
that Members
think that the
rate
is high.
It
was proposed
by
some
one
who
has
a
good knowledge;
how-
ever if Members
care
to amend
the
ordi-
nance they are at liberty to do so.

would like to- know whether
the
amount
stated
in the ordinance
will
be ia addition
to the present charge?

This
would
make
the
charges
pretty
high
for the people
of
Christiansted.

that
Frederiksted
have
the same
charge
existing in Christiansted.

understanding
of Government
in fixing
this
rate it
would expedite
the
removal
of goods
in
storage.

have
no
know-
ledge of the proper
charge,
if the charge
is
too low it would not
facilitate
the
re-
moval of goods
in the warehouses.

I for one would
like
to
know
where
is
the
warehouse
in
Frederiksted?
For
over
twenty
or
thirty
years
past
the
King’s Wharf in Frederiksted
is used
as
a warehouse.
It would be
a good
thing
i
Government
would
erect
a
proper
warehouse
in Frederiksted.
I
am
here
to represent
tho people
and it is my duty
to draw attention
to such
matters.
The
warehouse
at this
end is fairly good,
but
could
be made
larger; if the Government
would
build proper
warehouses
a proper
charge
could be made
for goods
remain-
ing
there.
It
is
unfortunate
that
this
matter
is brought
up on
the eve of
His
Excellency’s departure,
or
else
he would
have
looked
in
to
the
matter
and
he
would
see
that there
is
great
need
for a
warehouse
in Frederiksted.
