a day of
national
thauksgiving,
supvlieation
and
devolion,

recom-
mend
that
the
people
of
these
islands
gather
at their family altars
and
in their
houses
of worzhip
on that day
to
render
thanks
to God for the
bounties
they have
enjoyed
and
to petition
that
these
may
be
continued
and
increased
in
the
year
before
us.
[n
the beginning
of
our
country
the
custom
was
established
by
the,.davout
fathers
of observing
annually
a
day
of
thanksgiving
for the
bounties
and
pro-
tection
which
Divinae
Providence
had
ex-
tend2d
throagnovt
th>
year
and
it
is
emirently fitting that
the
custom
should
be
perpetuated.
No
country
and
no paople
are
without
their
trials
and
tribulations,
no
country
and
no people
are
without
the
bounties
and protection
of the Divine
power,-—let
us
all on this day of Thanksgiving
seek
only
to remember
the
latter.
Let each
heart
be
searched,
for the benefits
and
blessings
received
at
the
hands
of the
Almighty and for these
let us lift up our
hearts
in
an
appropriate
expression
of
appreciation
and gratitude.
The terrors of war have passed
us by and
we
are living at
peace
with the
world at
large,
we have been
spared
the
destruc-
tion due to hurricanes,
earthquakes,
and
tidal
waves,
the deva
tation due
to pesti-
lence,
placues,
epidemics
and
serious
illnesses,
we have
had
neither
drought
nor
famine,
we have
been
blessed
with
the protection
of law and order.
We
are
a God-loving people,
religioasly inelined,
living
1n
a spirit of amity
and
brotherly
love.
Let
us
therefore
celebrate
this
day
of Thanksgiving
as
sincerely
as
did
the
originators
of the
custom
when
it
was first established.

number

acres

sugar
cultivation,

cotton
cultivation,
in other cultivation and in pasture.
Also
information
concerning
the buildings
on
the
estate
and
appropriation
thereof,
especially
if there
are
rooms
rented
to
other
than
laborers
permanently
em-
ployed,
and
the length and width
of the
said
rooms
and
the
lental
thereof.
If any portion of the land
is considered
to
be useless,
and
vields no
revenue
to
the
owner,
the
number
of acres
of
such
- portion
must
be stated
in the
taxiist and
a
certificate
on oath,
issued
by tie
pro-
prietor and two Burghers
residing iu the
quarter,
and
furthermore
attested
by the
Quarter
Officer,
and
delivered
to
tha
Commission.
Cwners
of empty
lots
in town
are
re-
quested
to fili in the
taxlists
accurately,
giving the
irformation
desired,
in
order
that
it may
be
ascertained
if any
new
buildings
haJe
been
erected
on
the
property
during
the
year,
also
stat-
ing
the time
when
such
buildings
were
first oceupied.
In order
that reduction
can
be obtained
in
the taxes
for dwelling
hcuses,
ware-
houses
and she’’s,
which
have
been
un-
occupied
for
two months
and
upwards,
the
Commission
would
partieularly
draw
the
attention
of
those
parties
desiring
reduction,
that
it
is
very
necessary
in
such
coses
that certificates
to that
effeet
be
produced,
stating
that
the

As
several
planters
in

have neglected
to meet
at the
fixed
time
and
place
to
deliver
their taxlists,
the
Commission
begs
to
announce
that taxlists
will not
be received for any quarter,
at any
other
time
or
place
than
above
stated.
In
case
persons
neglect
to
deliver
a
taxlist for any
estate
in
due
time, the Commission
will,
be-
fore
closing
the
meeting,
assess
the tax for s::1 cstate
according
to
the best of its knowledge.
Taxlists
which
are
forwarded
later
to
the
Commission,
will, together
with
a
list of those
estates
that
have
omit-
ted
to
send
in
their taxlists,
be
transmitted
to_the Government,
in
order that other measures
be taken.
Blanks
for taxlists
will be
distributed
some
days
previous
to the
meeting
of
the
Tax Commission
and
are
required
to
be
accurately
filled
out
by
the
partics
concerned
and
deiv
r.
