The
fortnight
has
been
disappointing
from the
view of rainfall.
We have
had
little
at
a time
when
it is most
wanted.
Cold
nights
and
heavy
dews
have
pre-
vailed,
with
the
occasioral
~‘western
showers’,
peculiar
to
Barbados
which
are
strictly
circumscribed
in
area,
and
but of
slicni precipitation.
Planters
are
anxiously
viewing
the situation
as
with-
out
the
rains
ro bring on
the shoots,
the
growth
m st
be
arrested
and arrowing
take
place.
If the present
drought
con-
tinues
only
& baif
can
be counted
on for
reaping
next
year.
There
is sugar
famine prevailing here
owing
to
the
Government
allowing the
exports
to
continue,
without
reserving
an
adequa.e
amount
of
sugar
for local
conpsumptic

The
returns
made
tO the
Governmert
with
regard
to stocks
were
either
wor hiess,
or there
is a deliberate
hoarding
o:
stocks.
Ihe export of fancy
syrup
and
molasses
has
been
stopped,
and a Gove nment price fixed for the pro-
duet
at six'y four cents
per gallon retail.

margin left for the holder

It
is
understood

in price
and

are

unobtainable.

the

the Doaminion.
The
receipts
of inglish goods
continue
scant.
The onnage
is sufficient
but
the
orders
remain
unfifled.
