Applications for the Youth 
Ocean Explorers Summer 
Program are available online 
at vimas.uvi.edu and will 
need to be completed by both 
the student and 
parent/guardian. 
Scholarships are available.

OUR PROGRAM
The Youth Ocean Explorers
Summer Program is a 4-week
marine science-based
summer program open to
students in grades 7-12. Each
week, students learn about
new concepts in science
while using the environment
as their classroom. 
WHAT DO WE DO
Students are exposed to 
research tools and 
techniques used by 
scientists. We incorporate the 
use of hands-on, real-world, 
scientific experiments that 
encourage students to 
become more comfortable in 
the field and practice critical 
thinking skills.  
RESEARCH.
CAREER
DEVELOPMENT.
Students have the
opportunity to connect and
learn from a variety of
scientists during the
program. Each scientist adds
a unique element to the
program that helps students
to explore the many career
paths in Science. 
EDUCATE.
The Youth Ocean Explorers 
Summer Program teaches 
students to love our ocean 
and develop a sense of 
environmental stewardship. 
Students learn about our 
marine animal and plant life 
in the Virgin Islands whilst 
enjoying the ocean. 
MENTORSHIP.
With a 3:1 student to 
counselor ratio, we ensure 
that each student is paired 
with a mentor that helps to 
facilitate each lessons and 
activity. This training helps 
mentors develop better 
communication skills and 
students benefit 
from professional 
development.
