Johnson, Alma Francis Heyliger and Milton E. Potter Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 1 SECTION 1. Title 17 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 5, section 41, subsection c is 2 amended as follows: 3 (a) Paragraph (1), as amended by Act No. 8684, is stricken and a new paragraph (1) is 4 inserted to read as follows: 5 “(1) The history of the Virgin Islands and basic Caribbean history, such courses 6 to be part of the curriculum in elementary and secondary schools.” 7 (b) Paragraph (3) is amended by striking “Family” and inserting “Drug prevention and 8 substance education, family” and after “education” by striking “and substance abuse.” 9 BILL SUMMARY 10 This bill repeals Act No. 8684 and reinstates the provisions of Act No. 4844 with 11 amendments. The proposed legislation still provides for Virgin Islands history and basic 12 Caribbean history to be taught in elementary and secondary schools. 13 BR23-0390/February 16, 2023/AA 14
