Associate Geologist Harding Lawson Associates 131 North Third Street Philadelphia, PA 19106-1903 RE: Proposed Site Activities Phase II Remedial Investigation Work Plan Island Chemical Site, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands Dear Mr. Schindler: As previously advised, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hereby approves the first recommendation as outlined in your letter dated April 12, 1996. Specifically, EPA agrees with your recommendation that continuous water level data be collected to document the prevailing direction of groundwater flow under static conditions. Installation of the two new recorders, in addition to the two recorders currently fianctioning , should provide continuous data across the majority of the site. Once the data from the recorder is collected and evaluated, EPA recommends that a meeting be held to discuss the results. Specific comments and/or approval will follow shortly on the remaining recommendations. If you have any questions, please contact me at (212) 637-4273. Your cooperation is appreciated.
