An Act amending title 3 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 1, section 27i by changing the name of 
the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and expanding the duties and responsibilities of the

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands:

SECTION 1.  Title 3 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 1, section 27i, is amended in the 
2 
following instances: 
3 
(a) 
Subsection (a) is amended as follows: 
4 
(1) 
In the first sentence, insert “and School” after “Gun”; 
5 
(2) 
In the second sentence, insert “and school violence” after “gun violence”; 
6 
and 
7 
(3) 
In the third sentence, insert “the Department of Education;” after “faith-based 
8 
organizations;”. 
9 
(b) 
Subsection (b) is amended by inserting “and School” after “Gun”.

(c) 
Subsection (c) is amended as follows:

(1) 
Insert “and School” after “Gun”; 
12 
2 
 
(2) 
In paragraph (1), insert “the Department of Education,” after “Department of 
1 
Labor,”, and insert “students and” after “programs for”; 
2 
(3) 
In paragraph (2), insert “and school violence” after “gun violence”; 
3 
(4) 
In paragraph (4), insert “and schools” after “business community”; and 
4 
(5) 
In paragraph (9), insert “, and of school violence,” after “deaths”.

(d) 
Subsection (d) is amended as follows:

Insert “and School” after “Gun”;

(2) 
Designate the existing language as paragraph (1) and add paragraph (2) that

reads as follows:

“(2) The Department of Education shall report all incidents of school violence to 
10 
the Virgin Islands Office of Gun and School Violence Prevention.”

Subsection (e), paragraph (4) is amended by inserting “and school” after “gun”.

This bill amends title 3, chapter 1, section 27i, by changing the name of the Office of

Gun Violence Prevention to the Office of Gun and School Violence Prevention and expanding

the duties and responsibilities of the office to include school violence prevention.
