Revision of the Procedure for Confirmation of Faculty Appointments 25 BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION (Board of Trustees Meeting, March 9, 1986) The undersigned does hereby certify that the following is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the College of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on March 9, 1986, as recorded in the Minutes of said meeting: 1. Approving policies for the confirmation of appointments of Vice-Presidents and Component heads; 2. Affirming the President's authority to approve appoint- ments for other personnel subject to established guidelines. WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees is the chief policy making body of the College of the Virgin Islands with ultimate respon- sibility for the overall management of the institution; and WHEREAS, sthe President is appointed and confirmed by the Board of Trustees as the institution's chief executive officer with responsibility to the Board for the effective administration of the institution; and WHEREAS, it serves the vital interests of the institution for both the President and the Board of Trustees to participate in the process of appointing senior officials of the College; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED--Section 1. That the appoint- ment by the President of all Vice-Presidents and/or component heads responsible for the major subdivisions of the institutions, (i.e. Academic Affairs, Business and Financial Affairs, Student Affairs, Research and Land Grant Programs, College Relations and Develop- ment) shall be subject to confirmation by the Board of Trustees prior to their taking office. Section 2. That the President, acting in his duly appointed role as chief executive officer, shall. have the power to approve appointments for all other persons serving in administrative, teaching, research, professional, clerical, maintenance, service and other positions provided that: a. Such appointments shall be in keeping with Affirmative Action policies and other appointment guidelines approved by the Board of Trustees; b. Notification shall be given to the Board of Trustees of all persons appointed to teaching faculty positions; and -c. An annual Affirmative Action report shall be prepared for submission to the Board documenting compliance by the admin- istration with established guidelines. . f . i Date Secretary of the Board
