sprung
on

Critehlow,
pastor
of Trinity

Lutheran
Church,
Meadville,
Pa.
when
a
large
percentage
of
the
membership
called
at
the parsonaze
to
remind
hLim
’
that
he
had
arrived
at
the
70th
mile-
stone
on life’s journey.
The affair had
been
carefully
planned
and
kept
secret,
and
the
Reverend
gentleman
and
his
wife
were
taken
completely by
surprise
when
their self-
invited
guests
‘‘swooped
down’’
up-
on
them.
The
host
and
hostess
were
however,
equal
to
the
occasion,
and
cheerfully
surrendered
their
home
to
the
visitors.
A
tureen
supper
was
in
order,
and
at
the
proper
time
a
fine
menu,
prepared
by the
women
of the
church,
was
enjoyed.
One
of
the
fea-
turos of the social oceasion
was
the
pre-

sentation
of a substantiai
purse
to Rev.
Mr.
Critchlow
aad
his
wife,
who
isa
never tiring
helper
of
her
busband
ia
his pastoral
work,
Rav.
M.
Ceitehlow
in
acknowledg-
ing this visit and
extending
thanks
for
the
purse,
spoke
with
muen
fecling

to
the
great
pleasure
which
was
his,

of his
wife

daughter,

Fitzze:

Minister of Foreign Affairs, in muv-
ing the ratification of the treaty,
said he
had ca'led
the
attention
of the
British
authorities
to
the
fact,
that
the
words
“King of the United Kingdom
of
Great
Britain and Ireland’’ no longer
were
des-
criptive
of
fact,
but
that
he
had
not
pressed
upon
the
British
Government
that it take
immediate
steps
to
amend
this
wording,
pending
a
settlement
of
the
Irish boundary
question.
The
Gov-
ernment,
the
Minister added,
would
en-
deavour
to put
no hindrance
in
the
way
of the United States
in enforcing its own
laws.
Mr.
Desond
moved
an
amend-
ment
to the proposal
to
the
effect
that
the Dail should withhold approval of
the
treaty pending consideration
of
the
full
text
of
it.
He
challenged
the
whole
situation represented
by
the
use
of
the
words ‘‘United Kingdom
of
Great
Brir-
ain
and
llreland’’,
and
said
the
Dail
would have
to discuss

ex-Ambassador
to the
Unit
ed
States
was
aathorized
by
the

State
Government

its
behalf.
Mr.
MeCarty,
ex-Govarn-

made
by
the
Foreign
Minister.

deputies
also criticized
the Government
for

action

ment of
Mr. Desinond
was
defeated
by
a vote of 35 to 29,
Debate

the treaty
