CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS Telephone: (845) 257-3294 Fax: (845) 257-3129 Email: international@newpaltz.edu Date: March 21, 2006 To: Exchange Students From: Julie O’Sullivan International Student Advisor Thank you for your interest in the Exchange Program at SUNY New Paltz. We look forward to meeting you and are writing to request the information we will need to make sure that you can come to the United States in valid J-1 Exchange Visitor status. Please follow the directions carefully and contact us if you have specific questions. 1. Complete and return the enclosed Application for Exchange Visitor Program. With the form you will need to provide current financial documentation, which means an original bank statement in your name issued within the past three months, certifying that you have sufficient personal funds to supplement the financial assistance provided by SUNY New Paltz. For the Fall 2006 semester, this comes to approximately $5,670. For the full academic year, you will need to document $11,340. Please return this application to us by June 1, 2006 to ensure sufficient time to apply for a J-1 entry visa. 2. Once we have received your Application and Financial Forms, we will issue the Form DS-2019 with which you may apply for a J-l visa at a U.S. consulate. With the DS-2019 we will provide specific information about the process of applying for a J-1 visa. 3. Choose your classes for the Fall 2006 semester. In order to complete course pre- registration we ask that you select at least 7 courses that interest you and list them in your order of preference. We have attached a course selection handout for you to submit your request. Please make sure that this information is forwarded to us no later than June 1, 2006. In addition, please provide us with your current course transcript and information about your general academic interests so that we can suggest additional courses that might interest you. Course descriptions and schedule for the Fall 2006 term will soon be available online at: www.newpaltz.edu/classes. 4. Complete the attached Residence Hall License. We must receive the housing license no later that July 1, 2006. Students who return their housing license by this date will be given priority. Additional information about campus housing can be found at www.newpaltz.edu/admissions/reslife/index.html. We look forward to your arrival for the Fall 2006 semester. We will provide you with information about arrival and orientation very soon. Please feel free to contact us if you have specific questions or concerns.
