Governor Bryan Joins Public Works Commissioner Petty  For Ground-Breaking of New VITRAN Facility

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. joined Public Works Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr. for a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Virgin Islands Transportation System (VITRAN) Maintenance and Operations Facility on St. Croix that is being built to replace the 30-year-old current facility that lacks the space and equipment necessary to maintain VITRAN. 

As designed, the new facility is 14,950 square feet and will be the primary operating facility for VITRAN. It will comprise three buildings: an Operations facility, a bus washing building and a tire storage building. 

The new facility also will include four service bays outfitted to perform complete maintenance of all transit vehicles. As well as the administrative offices for all of VITRAN’s St. Croix staff. 

The new buildings will be in compliance with green building certifications and include sky lighting, solar water heaters, insulation radiant barriers, UV reflectors, energy-efficient lighting and other energy-saving features. 

The cost of the new facility is $6,702,915.
