citadel.
He
was
employed
at the War Office
and
was
ac-

of stealing
mobilization
and
octher
military
plans
for
British
representa-
tives.

shipping situa-
tion in Britisi:

the
worst
on
re-
cord.
The
docks
are
idle and thousands
of longshoremen,

firemen,

engineecrs
are
walking
about
jooking for
berths.
The
reason
why the
Olympic’s crew signed
on
at reduced
wa-
ges
withouta
strike
like
the
Acquita-
nia’s
crew
on
the
last
voyage.
The
joiners
have
been
on
strike
for
nine
mont.as
because
the shipyards
cut off the
war
oonus
of 12/ a
week
and vessels
are
being
sent
to
French
and Belgian
ports
to
get
cabinet
work
done.
One of
the
biggest
shipping
companies
which
has
contracts
tor
350,000
tons
to
be
com-
pleted
intwo
years
will pay
2,000,000
pounds,
but
when
compleied
the
ton-
nage
will be worth only 50% of the price
paid.
The
same
concern
is opaning
of-
fices
in
the
principal
cities of Europe
at
great
expense
and
is
spending
money
which
would
otherwise
go
to
the
gov-
ernment
under excess
profits.
