FACULTY REPRESENTATION ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

.eeThe Board discussed a request for faculty representation on

the Board of Trustees which was one of the questions arising from

the Conference Group meetings. The question of faculty representa—

tion had also arisen at a monthly meeting of the faculty of the

College, and the iaAeak reported to the Board of Trustees that

members of the teaching faculty wished to have a teaching faculty

representative on the Board of Trustees.



In the discussion which followed, a number of objections to

this proposal was raised. One of the objections concerned whether

the election of a member of the teaching faculty to serve on the

Board of Trustees would be equitable against the fact that members

of the administrative faculty, the large staff of the College, the

students, and other groups such as the alumni were not similarly

represented. It was reported that at least some members of the

student body felt that there should be a student representative on

the Board of Trustees, and comment was also made concerning whether

the meetings of the Board would be open to nonparticipating visitors.



The Board of Trustees discussed these questions further, but it

did not take action to support faculty or student representation,



indicating its wish to study these matters further.
