surprised
to see
some

the
figures
on
the budget.
I have *ot hitherto
voted
on budgets,
because
I consider the money
was
not ours,

we have
had from Ist Member

(Andersen),
if
they
are correct,
then
we
are
carrying
on
our
administration
with
our
own
money.
If this is the
case
it is time
that
we look into matters
for money
has
been
wasted
in nearly every
department,
and
the
more
we
give
the
more
they
want.
Today
a
budget
s
before us,
and
to
tell
the
truth
I
never
ex-
pected
to
see
such tremepdous
amounts
as budgetted.
The
time is coming when
the revenues
will be hard
o get in,
and
therefore
we
should
be
economical.

we
have
not got to beg for
money
from
the
mother
country,
we
should
have
leave
to say
what
the
expenditures
for
this island
should
be.
If the
statement
of the last
Honorable
Speaker
be
correct
I will takean interest
in reducing
expen-
ses,
only actual
expenses
should
be grant-
ed.

trying

done good
work

this Council,
and has
been
in the Council
before
many
who
re
iere
today.
I
have
worked
with him,
and
can
say
he
is
a good Meinber,
and
we would
follow
him
the
same
as
we
would
follow
any
other
man in this Council;
he
has always
fought
valiantly for his
opinion;
no
one
could
do more;
but
of course
others
may
not
be of quite
the same opinion
as
he.
He ought
not
to put his
light under
a
bushel.
He

we all

ate
him
as
a
Member
of
this Council and
as
a man.

Chairman

gave

recess
of
10 minutes.
After
recess
the
Council
reassembled
and the Chairman
asked
Members
to pre-
pare
their voting tickets
for
the election
of
four
man
to
serve
on
the
Electoral
Board.
