a communication

Union
of railwaymen,
declaring
there
has
been
a
misunder-
‘stantling,’ and agreeing
to further negoti-
ations,

upderstood.

of the
entire
cabinet
at
which
was
considered
an
ultimatum
by tae railway
executive,
threatening
to strike
on Friday noon.
At
an early
hour,
following
a
conference
between
Sir Eriec
Geddes,
the
new Minis-
ter
of Transportation,
and
Mr.
Lloyd-
George,
it was
announced
that Sir
Ervic
would
meet
the leaders
of
the
railway
men
on
Thursday morning.
The
action
of the railway executive
came
somewhat
unexpectedly
despite the gloomy lorecast
of an approaching
crisis ziven by
Secre-
tary Thomas.
An enquiry
among
lead-
ers of the railwaymen’s
union during the
morning
revealed
a
feklinz
that
Mr.
"homas
opinion did not
accord with the
general
view of ,the
men.
The
belief
was
voiced in most
quarters

wages
should
be
stabilized
until
December
31st.

the
standardization
of
wages
and

removal
of existing

decided
that
these
could
only
be cealr
with by
general
revision.
The
railwaymen’s{ unionsghave
been
pressing
for
standardization
but
it was
general-.

that

be of
the

most difficulty under
the existing
abnor-
mal conditions.

the locomotive
engineers,
firemen
and cleaners,
agreed
with the Governmen.

the standardiz--
tion
of
their
wages
on
August
20th.,

dardization
scheme

the

obstacles

rein-
forcements
to
Gabriel
Dannunzio’s
for-
ces,
have raised

military strength

this contingent
to more

12,000
