THE
CENTURY
BRASS
BAND,
ON SUNDAY JUNE 471H, the
Century
Brass
Band
will be
out
on
a
tour
visiting the estates
they did not
visit on
the
first
tour
about
two
weeks
ago.
The Entire Band will render
a Concert
at Bethlehem
and among
the pieces
to be
rendered
are
several Danish
favourites.
At
the end
of the
Program,
the
Band
will
play
the
ENGLISH,
FRENCH,
DANISH and AMERICAN Anthems.
Everybody
regardless
of class,
creed
or color is invited
to
the
Concert
and
asked
to do their
best
to assist
the
Insti-
tution in the purchase
of the Eb Baritone
Saxophone.

This
question
of
telephone
is much older
than
my
tenure
of aifice,
and
1 believe
you are
more familia,r
with
it than I am.
The purpose
of this Money
Bill is to construct
a trunk line t» King’s
Hill, the object of which is to give better
service
so a subscriber
will not hear
ano-
ther subseriber’s
conversation
over
the
telephone.
Another feature
of
it
is
to
place telegraph
instruments
in
the
cen-
tral at Frederiksted
in
order
that
mes:
sages
that
come
in here for
that
portion
of the island
can be
trarsmitted
without
being sent
over the telephone.
The
con-
cession
to the Municipality requires
that
telegrams
for Frederiksted
be
transmit-
ted by telegraph.
I believe
in
the
last
hurricane
some
of the telegraph
appara-
tus
was destroyed
and
as
a
result
mes-
sages
have ever since
been
sent
by
tele-
phone.
There
are
objections
to sending
messages
by telephone
because
some-
times they
are
on
private
business
and
can
be
heard
by
others,
and
thereis
a
nossibility of having
lawsuits
tor
mes-
sages
sent.
Another
purpose
for
the
money
is, to put poles in
Frederiksted
in
better
condition
Mr. Berg,
the Manager
o. the Telephone,
is in the outer
hall and
is ready
to answer any question
you
may
wish to propound
to
him..
The
income
f
. the telephone System
will
care
for
our
expenses
for upkeep,
unless
you
should
want to put in telzphone

long distances;
for instance,
if some
one
wants
a
telephone
up
in
the East
End
your
income
from
phone
rentals
will
not take
care of that.

Committee

this Money Bill to the effect

are
some
other
outside
improve-

twelve
times.

both
for
the
comnmunity
and
myself,
becatse
I
am
interested
in the telephone
myself.
If a
car is going at fifteen
miles
an hour
and
a
telephone
line is in the
way it is very
likely it may
take the top of the car off,
and it is dangerous
to lives of personse
&
know
of
two
persons
who
nearly
lost
their
lives in that
way.
All that is due
to the fact that the Managey
of the
Tele-
phone
is
trying
to
save
a
few
poles.
When
the line
to
‘‘Annally’was
be
ng
put
up I spoke
to Mr. Berg
about
thar
and
he said
therve
was no
money
and
he
was trying to save
a few poles.
It scems
to
me Gentlemen
that th- bill brought in
is
necessary.
When
we look at
our
re-
venues
and
the
prospects
of increasiag
it, it would
seem
pretty
hard
to vote any
amount,
but
the telephone
is useful, and
the
aim is to make
it
more
useful.
We

talk over
the
telephone

others
are
listening.
