THOMAS, V.I. 00802-5805 OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER PRESS RELEASE April 24, 2015 The Department of Public Works would like to announce the implementation of the Temporary Maintenance of Traffic Detour Plan through the Brookman Road Project on Route 32 Turpentine Run Road. On Monday, May 4, 2015 Brookman Road (Route 32) will be closed to westbound thru traffic from the intersection of Route 30 Bovoni Road at Nadir Intersection to the intersection of Route 38 Weymouth Rymer Highway at Fort Mylner Intersection. Only local traffic will be allowed past Nadir Intersection to access homes and businesses; and haulers with heavy loads that cannot negotiate Donkey and Cassi Hill will be allowed through the project to go westbound. Vehicles traveling eastbound on Turpentine Road (Route 32) from the intersection of Weymouth Rymer Highway (Route 38) at Fort Mylner will be allowed to proceed through the work zone during the reconstruction of the road and installation of the storm water drainage systems. The detour is expected to be in place for six months. The contractor will begin work on the improvements to the drainage systems with the installation of culverts crossings and the reconstruction of the road base and placement of concrete pavement. Flaggers will be present to assist with traffic flow and we ask that motorists avoid Brookman Road, Route 32 by seeking alternate routes such as Route 38, Smith Bay Road and Route 30, Bovoni/Frenchmans Bay Road. The contractor for this Project is Island Roads Corporation. The work is expected to be completed within twelve (12) months. The cost of the project is $3,871,440.00.
