EDWARD L. TOWLE MEMORIAL FUND FOR SUSTAINABLE ISLANDS In 2010, Judith Towle established a memorial fund to honor her husband, Dr. Edward Towle, the founding president of Island Resources Foundation. The Edward L. Towle Fund for Sustainable Islands serves to recognize the multifaceted career and contributions of Ed Towle  a naval officer, historian, educator, environmental leader, island advocate and Caribbean conservationist. In February of 2013 Ms. Towle donated a dialysis machine to the Peebles Hospital in Tortola, British Virgin Islands as the first award facilitated under the Edward L. Towle Memorial Fund. During a ceremony at Peebles Hospital, Ms. Towle stated that the very professional and caring treatment afforded her husband at the BVI's Dialysis Unit during his last years made it possible for Ed to continue to work in the Caribbean. "I shall always be grateful to the BVI and to the excellent staff at its Dialysis Unit," stated Ms. Towle, "and wanted to say 'thank you' in a way that could expand health services in the territory." The Edward L. Towle Memorial Fund is managed by the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) in St. Thomas, USVI. To support the goals of the Fund, contributors may send a check payable to “Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands,” with a Memo notation “For Edward L. Towle Memorial Fund,” to: PO Box 11790, St. Thomas, VI 00801. The CFVI is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, and donations are fully tax deductible for US tax payers.
