Which
Lost 300
Volunteers
In
The War.
The
Bishop
of
Leeds
will unveil
to-
morrow
the
most striking war memorial
to the
fallen
to be
found in the city.
In
St. Patrick’s Catholie Chureh,
East Leeds
(one of the poorest
parts
of
the
city,) a
memorial
altar
has
been crecteg,
and
so
touching is it that queues
of work people
from
the
neighbouring
factogies
have
gathered
ir the
church
during
the
din-
ner hour
to gaze
on
the
inspiring
work.
The arresting
feature
is a
centre
panel
in coloured
mosaic
depicting the
crucified
Saviour with a falle
soldier lying at
the
foot of the cross,
so artistically done that
many
have
been
moved
to
tears.
At either
side of
the
altar
is
a
panel
containing he
names
of
the
fallen
sol-
diers
in the parish.
There
are
over
300
names,
and
not
a
conscript
amongst
them.
Indeed,
every eligibie man of the
congregation
had volunteered
for
service
before conscription
was introduced.
The
altar has gpst nearly £I,OOO,
every
penny
of
which has
been
subscribed
while
a
tund has also been
founded for perpetual
masses
for the sculs
of
