To: The University Community From: LaVerne E. Ragster, President Subject: Message to the University Community Date: Thursday, March 12, 2009 Greetings to All! On Monday, March 2, 2009 I shared with the University community the report that had been submitted to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to address the requirement for the submission of a Monitoring Report. Today, I am pleased to report to you that the University has received a favorable response from MSCHE regarding our most recent submission. We have now met all requirements of the Commission’s 2007 Decision relative to the accreditation of UVI. This means that the next deliverable that UVI will have to provide to MSCHE will be due June 2012. This milestone could not have been achieved without the hard work, commitment, and consistent efforts of the members of the University community. The Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands is also acknowledged for its role in this positive outcome. Although we have made these significant strides, moving forward, the University must continue its efforts with respect to Shared Governance and attending to, and ensuring, that established MSCHE standards for higher education institutions continue to be met. This is indeed a wonderful achievement and a great precursor for the celebration of Charter Week and the 47th anniversary of this great institution which continues to specialize in futures. Regards, LaVerne E. Ragster
