FATAL AUTO-TRUCK ACCIDENT
Early yesterday
aiternoon

by the
news of
the sudden
death
of Carl Edlum,
driver
of
the
car
belonzing
ro the St.
Thomas
Labour Union, through
collision
with car
No.
6, the property ol Mr. Fred Neville.
and driven by Hubert
Gumbs
From
the deposition
furnished
the
Po-
lice by the
latter,
who
was
immediately
taken
into
custody
upon
information
of
the tragedy reaching
Pol
ce headquarters
and who has
since
been
sentanced
to 3(
davs for speeding,
it seems
that at about
12.30 when off the
Western
Cemetery
on
his
way
westward,
that he
heard
a
car
behind
him,
t
e
driver
of which
he
re-
cognized
to be
Edlum.
A little
later,
and
when
off the
see-
ond gate
of the first
cemetery,
he
heard
a
sound
as
of
a
punctured
tire
eman-
ating from
KEdlum’s
machine.
Lookirg
around,
he
discovered
thai
Edlum
bad
Jost
control
of
the
steering
gear
of his
car,
and
was
dashing
down
upon
him.
He
had but time
enoug
to
spring from
his
car,
when
there
was
a
crash.
Both
cars.
had
collided,
and
Edlum
was
ly-
ing on the
ground,
unconscious.
In the
car with
Gumbs
at
the
time
was
a boy
Gerald
Wright
by
name,
who suffered
some
slight
injuries
to
his
right
arm.
Edlum
was
immediately
taken
to
the
Municipal Hospital where he died
a
few
minutes
later.
From
Police
investiga-
tions made
as
well as from
the testimony
of witnesses,
it has leaked
out that there
was
something
of racing
between
the
two cars,
one
wiiness
affirming
that
he
even heard
the deceased
to
shout a
he
passed
the other
car.
A littie
later
he
heard
a terrible
noise,
and
on
going
to
