Mr. Mae Donald’s election
was
a surprise,
the reelection
of Mr. Clynes
having been
expected.
The
voting
was
exceeding
close.

Clynes, and it is understood
to have
been
the Scottish
labour members,
who turned
the scales
in favour of the former.
These
Scottish
members
are for torcing the pace
in Parliament
on unemp
oygnent and other

of interest

Mr.
Clynes
would
have
counselled
going
more
slowly.
There
was
little
doubt
that
the
labour
party,
as
a
whole,
favoured

aroused
in
the

dominions
because
the
management
cf
the
British
Empire
exhibition, which
is
to
be
held
in
1924,
decidea
not
to
re-
strict the supp'ies
of products
to be used
in connection
with

big
show
to
the
products
of the Empire,
it
has
been
de-
cided
to have
an official investigation
of
the affairs
of the
exhibition.
The
exe-
cutive
committee
held
a
stormy
meet-
ing yesterday
over
the
question
of sup-
plies and finally decided
to ask
the
Beard
of
Trade
to
grant
an
official
enquiry.
The
Duke
of Devonshire,
Fresident
of
the British
Empire
exhitition
and
two
other
members
of
the
executive
were
deputed
to appreach
the
Board
of Trade
in the
matter.
A suggesiion
was
made
at
the executive
meeting
that

enquiry
cshculd
be econducted

unemployed,
