The Cuban
sugar planters
are endeav-
oring
to
increase
their
production
of
white
sugars
so
as
to
be
warranted
in
making
them
perhaps
exclusively.
In
the old
days of Spanish
rule or misrule,
a large
percentage
of
white
sugar
was
made
in
Cuba
and
exported
to Spain.
Cuba
can
just as
well export
white
su-
gars
to all the world and
that is now be-
ing done
in Java
and
in Mauritius,
and
yet we
here,
in
Ctba
and in Louisiana,
among
the
most
enterprising
sugar
planters in the world.

great
monopolies
to
buy
the sugar
in
Cuba,
carry
it to their
refineries
and to
melt it up
and
then
re-manufacture
it
again into
sugar
crystals.

adopting
